Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is often thought of as “relaxation massage”, but it goes far beyond that designation. The strokes of Swedish Massage can indeed invite deep relaxation, but they can also improve circulation, stimulate the muscles and nervous system, and reduce scar tissue and adhesions, all of which may speed healing and minimize the effects of an injury. Swedish Massage techniques are the basis of several other massage modalities, such as Sports Massage, Orthopedic Massage, and Deep Tissue Massage.
deep tissue massage
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue and fascia. When muscles are stressed or traumatized, they block oxygen and nutrients from entering the area, leading to inflammation and a build-up of toxins in the muscle tissue. Deep Tissue Massage helps loosen muscle tissue, release toxins from muscles, and allows blood and oxygen to circulate in the area, thus aiding in the healing process. It helps with chronic muscular pain and scar tissue build-up, and is used in injury rehabilitation. Deep Tissue Massage uses techniques of Swedish Massage, Myofascial Release, and Trigger Point Therapy.
sports massage
Sports Massage is for the active client who wants to keep their competitive edge or maintain their regular fitness routine without crossing the line into injury. Pre-event massage is delivered at the event site. Fast-paced and stimulating, it helps to warm up and muscles and prepare the athlete for the upcoming event. Post-event massage is delivered shortly after the event at the event site. The intent here is to calm the nervous system and begin the process of flushing toxins and waste products out of the body. Post-event massage can reduce recovery time, enabling an athlete to resume training much sooner than rest alone would allow, and is useful for injury prevention.
Orthopedic/treatment massage
Orthopedic or Treatment Massage is designed to help the client rehabilitate from an injury or soft tissue dysfunction. Specific assessments are performed to evaluate the scope of the injury, and the treatment is targeted to the condition. Orthopedic Massage utilizes many massage techniques, such as Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, METs, and Lymph Drainage.
Mysofascial Release
Myofascial Release utilizes a slow, sustained pressure and movement into the fascial system (the connective tissue layer that supports our muscles, bones, nerves, organs, and even blood and lymph vessels) in order to eliminate fascial restrictions that are caused by trauma, poor posture, inflammation, and a sedentary lifestyle. By warming up, softening, and stretching restricted fascia, range of motion can be increased, the body’s holding patterns can be released, and a healthier cellular environment can be encouraged, aiding in the healing process. Myofascial Release is an effective therapeutic approach in the relief of neck pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, neurological dysfunction, restriction of motion, chronic pain, and headaches.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy is a deep neuromuscular technique that alleviates the muscular pain and dysfunction of trigger points, generally caused by chronically contracted muscles. A trigger point is a localized, hypersensitive nodule within a taut band of muscle or its associated fascia. Compression of the trigger point often results in pain that is referred to another part of the body. By applying slow, steady and consecutively deeper pressure to the trigger point, the painful nodule ultimately lets go, allowing fresh blood and oxygen to enter the traumatized area, and the accumulated waste products to be flushed out. Trigger Point Therapy, though painful during its execution, is very effective at alleviating chronic pain situations.
muscle energy techniques
Muscle Energy Techniques (METs) are a type of manual neuromuscular therapy designed to normalize joint dysfunction and increase range of motion. METs involve a voluntary isometric contraction of a client’s targeted muscle in a precise and controlled direction, at various levels of intensity, against a specific counterforce applied by the practitioner.
lymphatic drainage
Lymphatic Drainage utilizes gentle strokes that are intended to stimulate the movement of the body’s lymphatic fluids in order to assist the body in cleansing and healing. This gentle, rhythmic technique cleanses the connective tissue of inflammatory materials and toxins, enhances the activity of the immune system, reduces pain, and lowers the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, paving the way for relaxation and healing.
